Khokana is a Newar farming village lying 7 km south of the Ring Road that encircles the two cities of Kathmandu and Patan. The village begins with a wide cobbled street and in the middle of the main street lies the temple of Shekali Mai, Kokhana,s local mother Goddess. Khokana is famous for mustard oil, which is still made the traditional way and spun woolen yarn. This is a nice bicycle ride.
Tihar (Deepawali): (October-November) Known as the festival of Lights. Tihar is celebrated for five days. Houses are illuminated at night and special sweets of different varieties are prepared. Many Nepali people go home to their families to celebrate.
Pashupatinath Temple is situated 5km east of Kathmandu, the temple of Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath, with two tiered golden roof and silver door is considered one of the holiest shrines for Hindus. Although only Hindus are allowed inside the temple, visitors can clearly see the temple and the activities performed in the temple premises from the eastern bank of the Bagmati river. The Temple was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument List in 1979. Here is the Maha Shivaratri festival celebrated the best and also the Teej festival.
Sundarijal is famous for its scenic beauty.There are magnificent waterfalls, cataracts and rock formations. It is an ideal picnic spot, just a short hike away from the motorbike road. This is where the Helambu trek starts.
